Delhi will have better roads

The Delhi government Wednesday announced a Rs.14.3 billion ($315 million) plan to improve the condition of over 1,500 kilometres of roads in the Indian capital.

Around 1,524 kilometres of roads will be strengthened and widened in a phased manner over the next three years, officials said.

The ring road, outer ring road, national highways touching the capital and other roads having heavy traffic would be upgraded with polymer-modified bitumen whereas resurfacing would be done with recycling technology, they said.

The Supreme Court today directed the municipal authorities to free roads, footpaths and public streets in the national capital from unauthorised hawkers and squatters within two weeks and formulate a policy for them keeping in view the welfare of general public.
