Dengue toll in Delhi goes up to 15, nearly 600 cases reported
Continuing its killer spree, dengue claimed two more lives in the national capital on Wednesday, taking the toll to 15 even as the number of people afflicted with the disease touched the 600 mark in Delhi.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs son-in-law and two grandsons were admitted in AIIMS with high fever and other dengue-like symptoms.
Two more persons died of dengue at AIIMS on Wednesday and 29 fresh cases were reported to the institute, hospital spokesman Shakti Gupta said.
The two persons who succumbed to the disease were Reshma, a resident of Meerut, and Rahmat Ali, a Delhiite.
Of the new cases admitted in the hospital, three were from within the AIIMS campus, the spokesman said.
At present 72 patients are admitted in the hospital, of which 19 are from within the AIIMS premises and 53 are outsiders, he added.
Meanwhile, Mayor Farhad Suri undertook an inspection of MCD hospitals in the wake of the spread of dengue, coming across mosquito breeding in a hospital run by the civic body.
Mosquito breeding was found in the water tanks at the Swami Dayanand Hospital by the anti-dengue team that accompanied the Mayor on the inspection tour and the hospital was subsequently challaned.
Incidentally, on Tuesday the Horticulture Department of another MCD hospital Hindu Rao was challaned when mosquito breeding was found in their office.
