Delhi Metro Line-II to enter Gurgaon
Commuting to the capitals satellite town Gurgaon will become easier as the Delhi government Tuesday decided to expand the Delhi Metro Line-II seven kilometres inside the IT township.
Delhi Chief Minster Tuesday said that Line-II of Delhi Metro would now go up to Sushant Lok, Gurgaon, and would traverse through populated neighbourhoods like Saket, Hauz Khas and Malviya Nagar.
The line from the Central Secretariat to Sushant Lok will be of 28 km and is expected to be operational months before the Commonwealth Games to be hosted here in 2010.
The stretch up to Saket would be underground and after crossing the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road it would be elevated till Sushant Lok.
Earlier the stretch was to go till Qutub Minar.
From Qutub to Sushant Lok, there will be eight stations of which five will be in Gurgaon. The extension would cost Rs.14.22 billion.
Around 475,000 people commute everyday in metro trains, the sleek and world-class transport medium of the capital.

Delhi-Gurgaon metro to start by June 2010
The Haryana Government on Wednesday said that the 14.5-km Metro railway line between Qutub Minar and Sushant Lok linking the Capital with Gurgaon would be operational by June 2010 before the start of the Commonwealth Games.
Talking to media persons after the project was cleared by the Group of Minister, Shakuntala Jakhu, Secretary, Town & Country Planning, Haryana, told media persons here that the Haryana Government would spend Rs.
688 crore on construction of the metro linkage and the process of identifying and acquiring land has already been undertaken.

The stage is set for the Delhi Metros ambitious segment from the international airport to the New Delhi railway station. The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group is reported to have emerged as the highest bidder for the estimated Rs 4,000 crore project. The airport metro line will connect the city centre to two major destinations expected to witness huge traffic growth.
Indications are that a formal announcement is likely in a day or two. Delhi Metro executives, however, declined to confirm the development.
Sources said the other bidders in the race were Larsen & Toubro and a consortium led by GE.
