The body of Isabelle Dessoy, 47, was found with 22 stab wounds, a police spokesman said.

Dessoy, who lived in a rented house in south Delhi with her teenaged son, was allegedly killed by her driver, Vijay Choudhary, on Saturday night, police said.

It is learnt that she had an altercation on Saturday with her driver and we suspect him behind the crime, the spokesman said.

Police officials told local news outlets that the woman had been killed with a kitchen-knife.

Dessoy was a personal assistant to officials at the Belgian Embassy in Delhi, the NDTV network reported, noting that senior police officials negated earlier reports that she had held a diplomatic position.

Police added that the driver was absconding and police teams have fanned out to various parts of Delhi to arrest him.
