Acting swiftly on the orders of a city court, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Wednesday pulled down Vasant Kunj-based Sahara Restaurant, owned by restaurateur Vinod Khatri, who is facing CBI prosecution in a corruption case.
The court contended that the restaurant was built on encroached land.
The demolition today began around 1 pm, soon after we came to know about the courts directive, DDAs director (public relations) Neemo Dhar told Newsline. We were obligated to do it, for the court had also rejected the owners request to stay the order for some time.

NEW DELHI: Continuing with buoyant revenue collections under the Value Added Tax (VAT) regime, Delhi Finance Minister A. K. Walia has silenced his critics by achieving a 26 per cent growth in revenue receipts during 2005-06. The collections touched Rs. 8,939 crores during 2005-06 compared to Rs. 7,106 crores in 2004-05.
