The Delhi High Court has stayed the process of recruitment of more than 1,000 primary teachers by the Delhi Government. However, the Court gave liberty to the Government to restore the previous maximum age limit of 32 for male candidates and 42 for female aspirants and bring out a fresh advertisement for recruitment to fill the vacancies.
Justice J.M. Malik stayed the recruitment process on a bunch of petitions filed by certain aspirants who had become ineligible for applying for the post following the amendments to the maximum age limits.
The petitioners, diploma-holders in Elementary Teacher Education, submitted that the amendments were carried out in an arbitrary manner as their career was not taken into account while making the changes in the recruitment rules.
Since male as well as female candidates who had attained the age of 30 were eligible for admissions to the diploma course, the sudden decision to reduce the maximum age limit for recruitment to the post had affected their career.
I hereby stay the further proceedings pursuant to the advertisement dated July 26, 2006, for recruitment to the post and direct that examinations not be held till further orders, Mr. Justice Malik said in his interim order

The Delhi High Court has ordered the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) to complete the process of selection of 3,406 teachers posts for MCD schools in the capital before June 30.
Justice Pradeep Nandrajog asked the DSSSB to issue the necessary advertisements within 10 days while prescribing may 31, 2006 as the last date for receipt of the applications.
The High Court also asked the DSSSB to initiate necessary measures for selection of 3,500 teachers in schools run by the Delhi government as and when requested by the Directorate of Education.
