Web-based monitoring system for Delhi Govts PWD

Filed under:

Soon residents of the capital would be able to keep a watch on every mega-project that is being undertaken or planned, with the Delhi government all set to introduce a web-based monitoring system in its Public Works Department (PWD).

The project worth over Rs 10 crore will be available on the website of the Delhi Government soon, Principal Secretary (PWD) K S Mehra said.

Giving details of the e-system, he said the important components of each project like the details of the work, time schedule for completion, graphic design and payment to contractors besides project cost would be accessible at the click of the mouse.

Mehra said that the step was the part of the good administration system and would help expedite the completion of the projects, keeping in mind the Commonwealth Games to be held four years later in the capital.

Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi has installed Category 3B landing system, but its personnel are not trained to operate it. It acts as a vertical guidance in heavy fog. The system also warns pilots about the distance between the aircraft and ground. Officials say training pilots to use the CAT 3B system is expensive. Pilots also need a certain number of flying hours using the CAT 3A system to

MCD plans to de-seal 4,000 properties before Diwali

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi today said it was planning to de-seal more than 4,000 commercial properties on notified roads in the national capital soon. The issue of de-sealing these shops, which got relief under an August 12 Urban Development Ministry notification bringing 37 amendments to the Master Plan for Delhi, has remained a matter of contention between the civic agency and the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring panel. As the monitoring committee was turning down all the applications we were moving to them for de-sealing, we had to approach the apex Court. It has now directed the panel to de-seal properties

Upgraded landing system at Delhi airport

In a bid to prevent the chaos at the Indira Gandhi International Airport arising out of night fog, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has upgraded and put into use the landing system from CAT-III A to CAT-III B under which the visibility required is only 50 metres. The new Instrument Landing System (ILS) has been installed at the main runway of the airport and has been air-calibrated to conform to the specifications set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, an official spokesman said here today. Besides this, the runway markings and the airfield lighting system have been upgraded to

Delhi airport gets latest fog-buster but no one knows how to use it

At 5.30 on Sunday morning, barely hours before the dense fog played havoc with airline schedules and pushed countless restive passengers to their brink, the Airports Authority of India unveiled what seemed like the best Christmas gift: Delhi airport will now have “ILS CAT IIIB'' (Instrument Landing System, Category IIIB). This means planes can land in Delhi even when visibility is down to 50 m. This is an upgradation of the existing Category III A - installed two years ago - which allowed planes to land in 200-m visibility. What the AAI did not say in its one-page announcement was that there
