Way clear for Delhi notification on land use change

Filed under:

Ending uncertainty over the fate of 2,183 roads in the Capital that have been cleared by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi under mixed land use and commercial categories, the Union Urban Development Minister on Thursday evening issued a corrigendum empowering the Delhi Government to issue a notification for land use change on such roads and streets.

According to sources in the Delhi Government, the decision to empower the State Urban Development Department to issue the notification would pave the way for all these roads in C, D, E, F, G and H category colonies to be notified under the mixed land use and commercial norms in residential areas. It is learnt that the Ministry conveyed to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Finance Minister A. K. Walia after a prolonged meeting in the evening that it had issued the corrigendum designating the Urban Development Department as the Competent Authority as defined in the National Capital Territory of Delhi Act.

It is learnt that the file pertaining to notification of the roads had been sent to Lieutenant-Governor B. L. Joshi for his opinion and decision in view of the tussle between the Delhi Government and the Centre. However, now the file will be retrieved for issuing the notification on Friday and would be sent for approval to Mr. Joshi. Keeping in mind the September 16 deadline set by the Supreme Court for sealing of misused premises in the Capital, the notification will in all likelihood be through by Friday evening.
