The Delhi governments move to amend the law to permit commercial activities in residential areas could face judicial scrutiny with a former bureaucrat challenging the move in court.
Former Delhi chief secretary Omesh Saigal, Wednesday moved the Delhi High Court against the Sep 7 notification of amendments to the Delhi Master Plan-2001 allowing commercial activities in residential areas by making changes in the land use and the Floor Area Ratio (FAR).
A bench comprising judges Vijender Jain and Kailash Gambhir posted the petition for hearing Friday.
The order came when counsel for the Central government sought time to find out whether a similar petition had been filed in the Supreme Court as well.

The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi University to consider granting provisional admission to a physically challenged candidate who alleged that the varsity was not allowing him to join its dental course despite his qualifying in an entrance test.
Vacation Judge A K Sikri ruled that the candidate should not be denied admission only on the ground that the University wants to fill two seats as against the 12 seats reserved for physically challenged candidates.
