Delhi University teachers launched a four-day strike today, demanding among other things setting up of a UGC pay review committee and raising their retirement age from 62 to 65 years.
More than 100 teachers under the banner of Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) staged a demonstration here and demanded that the governnment consider their long-standing demands.
On our demand for raising the age of retirement to 65 years, there is complete lack of clarity despite expectations raised by the stance of HRD Ministry on the issue, a teacher leader said.
The other demands made by DUTA include that the university administration should review the under-graduate programmes restructured during the last few years.
The Association has planned four-day agitation programme during which they will raise these issues at various levels including HRD Ministry, UGC, Delhi Government and University administration.

The Comptroller and Auditor General has said Delhi University has made "irregular" payment to the tune of Rs 25.07 lakhs as advance increments to teachers in violation of the orders of University Grants Commission.
In its report for 2005, the CAG said the university granted two advance increments from January 27, 1998 to 32 teachers who had secured Ph.D before joining the university.

The Delhi High Court has ordered the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) to complete the process of selection of 3,406 teachers posts for MCD schools in the capital before June 30.
Justice Pradeep Nandrajog asked the DSSSB to issue the necessary advertisements within 10 days while prescribing may 31, 2006 as the last date for receipt of the applications.
The High Court also asked the DSSSB to initiate necessary measures for selection of 3,500 teachers in schools run by the Delhi government as and when requested by the Directorate of Education.
