Cyprus first lady meets thalassemia patients in Delhi

First Lady of Cyprus Fotini Papadopoulou Wednesday interacted with over 100 thalassaemic children in a private hospital here and donated speciality equipment used by patients of the ailment. India like Cyprus is a country highly affected by the disease, which, if not addressed properly, can amount to a major public health problem, Papadopoulou said during her visit to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Simultaneous liver and kidney transplants in Delhi

A team of doctors at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital here have performed what is said to be the worlds first successful simultaneous liver and kidney transplants from two live donors on a 15-year-old boy diagnosed with primary hyperoxaluria. The boy, Ganesh Nehru, is now well and ready to be discharged from the hospital just three weeks after the path-breaking surgery. According to medical experts, in primary hyperoxaluria patients the liver lacks an enzyme called alanine-glyoxylate aminotransferase that results in accumulation of (calcium) oxalate crystals in the body resulting in kidney failure and death by the second or third decade

Meghalaya govt to tie up with Delhi hospital for tele-medicine

Chief Minister D D Lapang says that he will link this facility with other district hospitals in the state too The Meghalaya government will take the initiative for a tie-up with Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi for tele-medicines, Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang said on Tuesday. A small tele-medicine facility was set up at Shillong Civil Hospital and the tie- up with the Delhi hospital would immensely benefit the patients from different parts of Meghalaya, the chief minister said.
